ILS-Z 639 SOCIAL MEDIA MINING (3 CR.)
This course provides a graduate-level introduction to social media mining and methods. The course provides hands-on experience mining social data for social meaning extraction (focus on sentiment analysis) using automated methods and machine learning technologies. We will read, discuss, and critique claims and findings from contemporary research related to SMM.

In this course, you'll learn to ask research questions about social data and gather and analyze information to find answers. We'll cover various practical computational methods commonly used for exploring and understanding social data, such as Data Visualization, Machine Learning, Network Analysis, Sentiment Analysis, and Topic Modeling. Having prior training in programming (preferably Python) is required.
